Jodi Picoult was born and raised on Long Island. Writing stories has always been her passion. When she graduated from college, she needed jobs before she became a writer just to pay the rent. Picoult took jobs like writing short stories in Seventeen Magazine and teaching 8th grade English. Shortly after she married her husband, she became pregnant with her first child. Her experience with this led her to write her very first novel, Songs of the Humpback Whale. Other experiences with her family and friends influenced the ideas for most of her books. Picoult recalls, “It took me a while to figure out that I already had something to right about – that solid core of family, and the knotty tangle of relationships, which I keep coming back to in my books.” Now Picoult is the bestselling author of 14 novels, including the following: My Sister’s Keeper; 19 Minutes; The Pact; and Plain Truth.
